Review of NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH by Kara Lennox (see her website)

    Harlequin SuperRomance #1695, March 2011

It's the hottest story in his career and just what reporter Griffin Benedict needs to secure his dream job--news anchor for a national TV news magazine. If the chief legal counsel for Project Justice has been taking bribes, it isn't just news, it throws the credibility of a supposed do-good organization into doubt. Of course, as a good reporter, Griffin owes it to lawyer Raleigh Shinn to give her a chance to refute the evidence, no matter how strong it seems. He isn't surprised when she claims innocence. What does surprise him is that he wants to believe her.

Since she lost her husband in a car accident, Raleigh Shinn has tried to lose herself in her work. She's had the true love of her life, so she doesn't have to worry about dating. Her sexual reaction to the hunky reporter scares her, but not half so much as his accusations. Still, his claims have a superficial ring of truth. How did that money suddenly appear in her bank account if it wasn't due to something rotten? Unfortunately, the only way to convince him of his innocence is to work with him to discover who is behind what can only be a frame-up. And spending time with a too-sexy guy is the last thing Raleigh wants to do.

Over the years, Raleigh has amassed some enemies. Her late husband's parents have never forgiven her for the death of their son. And plenty of criminals are convinced that she could have saved them if only she'd taken their cases. Still, would any of them bother to frame her? As she and Griffin investigate, the danger escalates--and Raleigh's certainty that she's doomed to stay single wavers. But Griffin is moving on and connecting with him guarantees even more pain.

Author Kara Lennox (see more reviews of novels by Lennox) continues her "Project Justice" series with a story that combines deep emotion with fast-paced suspense. Both Griffin and Raleigh have mapped out their lives, and neither has room for the other. Yet they cannot help emotionally (and sensually) bonding as they find themselves thrown into shared danger and escalating tension. Lennox turns up the heat as the two struggle to reconcile their dreams with their desire.

    Four Stars
